Ancient Arabic Poetry: A Civilizational Heritage Spanning Centuries
Arabic poetry is considered one of the oldest forms of literary expression, dating back centuries before Islam. Research demonstrates that the Jahiliyyah period witnessed remarkable poetic flourishing, with the finest poems compiled in the collection of the seven Mu'allaqat. According to the Center for Quranic Studies at Al-Azhar University, these Mu'allaqat contained approximately 280 verses from poets such as Imru' al-Qays and Al-Nabighah al-Dhbyani. Poets employed diverse poetic meters alongside rhyming and alliteration to enhance their style. This heritage has retained its civilizational and educational significance throughout the ages.
